Piglet by Lottie Hazell

Dark, delicious I devoured it over breakfast.
To be fair I am a slow eater, ‘eats like a sparrow, no not fussy just not the hungry’ was how I was described growing up. I am on the opposite end of the spectrum to our protagonist Piglet when it comes to food consumption! However this did not put me off.
I was in love with the visual effect of this book. The cover had me, the name, the colours and the smooth slick overall design. It is most definitely smooth to touch. I am glad I had the UK design and not the US big sloppy burger as that may of put me off.
One lazy Sunday morning with the sun peeping through the curtains, it seemed ideal to read the whole book before the rest of the house was up. I didn’t really know what I was in for as I don’t read the backs of books or wish to have any spoilers.
The story is mainly told through dialogue and the descriptions of food. It turned out it was a quick and easy read. I was intrigued by the cover, name and being a debut, that was enough to lure me in.
Unbeknownst to me I would get the opportunity to meet the lovely author Lottie Hazell just a few months after reading the book. I was fortunate to have a front row seat to listen to Lottie along with two other wonderful authors Nikki May whom I know and Tracy King.
This panel of authors were talking at the Women’s Prize Live 2024 about their new books and the subject of outsiders. I was later able to meet Lottie and have my copy of Piglet signed and Lottie wrote me a lovely supportive dedication. Thank you Lottie.
I highly recommend this book for something a little different and a light read suitable for anytime of the year.
