First Friday Five!
Five favourite things of the week that have provoked thought, inspiration and contemplation
Ooh, the alliteration.
Hello my wonderful followers and subscribers thank you so much for all your support and if you are new here thank you for finding me.
I thought for my Substack I would do end of the week round up, health allowing, hence this popping up on a Saturday due to my scrambled brain on Friday night.
I appreciate the end of week is different for people and I myself never actually have a day off as I’m sure many of you know only too well when you are disabled and have health conditions, a parent and work and or are a student and a carer for an elderly parent too!
I’ve gone with the traditional end of the week being a Friday and love the alliteration of Friday Five especially for First Friday Five.
This is for Friday 8th March 2024.
I bring to you the following…
Sir Gawain & the Green Knight translated by Simon Armitage published by Faber & Faber 2009
This week marked the end of this module for my degree course. I really enjoyed this and will do a separate review for this book.
A lonesome metal knight from a chess set we can call Sir Gawain.
It was rather amusing that this week I happened to come across this little fellow whilst sorting through some more of my late father’s possessions, and found him in a drawer. I thought how fitting given that I’ve just finished Sir Gawain (in lectures), though I still have the assignment to do but this felt like my dear papa was sending a message. I do, in fact, remember this beautiful chess set and reminisce my father being the one to teach me chess. I’m sure the rest of the set will turn up. For now this Sir Gawain will watch over me as I get down to business with the required essay.
Next up is a a lovely mug with my initial from Fox & Ivy.
I do love a good mug. I also don’t believe you should have ‘sets’ of mugs. A spare in case but never sets, I’m much more for the unique mug! This one is what I have been using this week, feeling the colour goes with Sir Gawain. This mug is not particularly heavy but doesn’t feel cheap material. I love its colour shape and feel.
4th item is paperback copy of Butter, published for 4th Estate on 29th February (464 pages)
This is what I’m going to kick off the weekend with. I believe it’s a big hit in Japan and is inspired by a true story, and will become a sought after cult classic now it has been published here, in the UK.
5th and final item that was received with the delivery of Butter is a lip balm by LUSH
I look forward to using this as the weather is still bitterly cold at the moment. I’m looking forward to spring.
Please let me know what you think to this weeks Friday Five and feel free to share yours.
